Discover the Garden of Iris and the Giardino delle Rose, between aromas and breath-taking views of the town. Strolling in the city you will know some contemporary artists and you will learn about the traditional craftmanship in the neighborhood of Santa Croce.
DESCRIPTION
Starting from Piazzale Michelangelo you will visit the Garden of Iris and the Garden od Roses. This beautiful Garden has more than 300 different species of roses and you will fall in love with the poetic world of Folon, the famous belgian sculptor.
Then you will go past the medieval Gate of San Miniato and you will enter the so called Oltrarno fiorentino. Take a break in the famous caffè Rifrullo and after that you will visit the workshop of two famous contemporary artists: Alessandro Dari and Clet.
Cross the bridge Ponte alle Grazie and reach the other side of the river Arno, where you will discover the neighborhood/district of Santa Croce. First you will visit the perfume and fragrances shop Acquaflor and then the Scuola del Cuoio, famous because of its leather production. Meanwhile you will learn about the church of Santa Croce, a beautiful gothic church and Pantheon of Italy.
To discover the old inlay techniques of mosaico fiorentino you will visit the workshop Lastrucci. At the end of the tour inside the historical market Sant’Ambrogio. you will taste a typical florentine dish, panino with lampredotto.
The recommended period for floriculture enthusiasts is April / May, during the flowering of the roses or in October for the second flowering.
